We talk a lot around here about the things sisters pass along to each other. The books we love, recipes we’re making, things we’re learning, and ideas that make life a little better.

But being sisters also means walking through the hard parts of life together. And this has been a big part of mine.

A little over two years ago, childhood cancer became part of our family’s story when my son Eli was diagnosed with leukemia.

I wrote about his diagnosis, the symptoms we didn’t recognize, what that first year of treatment looked like, and the incredible kindness that carried our family through it.

Today, Eli is doing so well, and we are so grateful.

Childhood cancer will always be part of our family’s story, and even though we’re in a very different place now, it’s something I’ll always care deeply about.

And if sharing our story can help another family feel a little less alone, it’s worth telling.

Hey, it’s Emma here today. I wanted to share something a little more personal.

We share a lot of the good stuff our sisters pass along around here. The things we’re reading, making, learning, and loving. But being sisters also means walking through the really hard things together.

Two years ago, in the middle of Eli’s cancer treatment, I wrote this on the first day of September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Today, Eli is doing so well, and we’re so grateful his treatment is behind us.

Life looks very different than it did two years ago, but childhood cancer will always be part of our family’s story. I’ll never stop caring about the families walking through it.

So I wanted to share what I wrote in the middle of treatment:
— Today marks the first day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

A month I didn’t even know existed until this year. I’m embarrassed to admit that. I wish I had known.

I’m not in a great place to list all the stats or how much funding and support is lacking, so I’ll just say this...It takes a village to get these kids through. It takes people willing to advocate and donate blood. It takes doctors, researchers, and medical professionals.
It takes people willing to read their stories and lift up these kids, their parents, and their siblings.

There are a million things that need advocacy. I’m just asking that maybe you choose one way to be a village for a cancer child this month: Send a kind message. Learn a child’s name and story. Say a prayer. Donate blood. Wear gold. Donate to a childhood cancer foundation. Donate toys to a children’s hospital. Serve a family battling cancer.

It truly takes a village.

We couldn’t do this without all of you and the cancer families who have come and gone before us. 💛
— Two years later, I still believe every word of this.

We’ll never forget the people who were our village during Eli’s treatment. I know now how much it means to let people show up and carry you when you need it.

And I hope we spend the rest of our lives turning around and being that village for someone else. 💛 @idrawchildhoodcancer

How grateful we are to live in a place where the changing of the seasons marks a new, exciting time of life. But oh, how we’ll miss the simple joys of summer. What will you miss from this summer?

Thursday: Steak Salads (Natasha’s Kitchen)
Friday: Hamburgers + Air-Fried French Fries from Costco

We’re hanging onto summer a little longer with garden tomatoes, dinners on the grill, and plenty of fresh flavors. Plus, a few easy meals for those nights when getting dinner on the table is enough of an accomplishment.
