The Best Spring Children’s Books for Kids: Our Family Favorites

Spring always makes me want to freshen up our bookshelf with stories that match the season. As the days get longer and the weather warms up, we naturally start reaching for books about gardens, baby animals, and rainy days. I thought I’d share a few of our favorite spring children’s books, ones we come back to every year and that feel just right for this time of year.

In First Notes of Spring, Juniper the badger is excited to join the forest’s spring orchestra, but her drumming is too loud for the conductor. Feeling a little discouraged, she heads out into the woods and meets other animals making their own music. Together, they create a joyful symphony, reminding us that everyone has something special to contribute.

This is one of our favorite spring children’s books. After the Rain follows Levi, who’s excited to send his toy boat down the gutter. Things take a turn when Polly stomps in and claims the “river” for herself. A playful puddle fight begins. As the water starts to disappear, they realize they need to work together to save their adventure. It’s a sweet reminder that sharing and teamwork make everything more fun. Both my kids loved this book and wanted to read it over and over. Ages 3+

From moose avoiding magnolias to bees buzzing around blossoms, the book uses rhymes and illustrations to teach about nature’s connections. I loved customizing this to my kids’ attention spans. We kept it simple with my 4-year-old but explored the educational side with my 6-year-old. She also loved finding all the rhyming words. Ages 4+
