Bubble Foam! A St. Patrick’s Day Adventure for Toddlers
St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect time to add a little extra fun and magic to your child’s playtime. One of our favorite activities for young learners and toddlers is Bubble Foam! It’s simple to make, engaging for little hands, and provides a wonderful sensory experience. While you can create Bubble Foam in any color, we went with green to celebrate the luck of the Irish!

How to Make Green Bubble Foam
There are two easy ways to make Bubble Foam, and both use common household ingredients. Choose whichever method works best for you!
Option 1:
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup bubble bath (We love this brand of bubble bath)
- 2 drops of green food coloring (We’d recommend this food coloring)
Option 2:
- 2 tablespoons dish soap
- 2/3 cup warm water
- 2 drops of green food coloring
To create the foam, simply mix your chosen ingredients in a KitchenAid mixer, blender, or with a hand mixer until they form a fluffy, bubbly consistency. This usually takes a couple of minutes. Once the foam has reached the desired texture, pour it into a bin or sensory tray, and the fun begins!

Setting Up for Success
Bubble Foam is an exciting and slightly messy activity, so a little preparation goes a long way. If the weather is nice, take the bin outside for some mess-free fun in the sunshine. If you’re playing inside, place the bin on a towel or blanket to help contain any spills. This way, cleanup is a breeze, and your little ones can enjoy their St. Patrick’s Day play without worry.
The Magic of Sensory Play
Sensory activities like Bubble Foam help children explore textures, strengthen fine motor skills, and engage in imaginative play. Your little one can scoop, swirl, and squish the foam, feeling its light and fluffy texture. Add in some small toys, gold coins, or shamrock-shaped sponges for an extra festive touch. For an educational twist, use the foam for pre-writing practice by encouraging kids to trace shapes, letters, or numbers in the bubbles.

Bubble Foam Beyond St. Patrick’s Day
While green is perfect for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, this activity can be customized for any occasion. Try red for Valentine’s Day, orange for Halloween fun, or a rainbow of colors just for the joy of it! Bubble Foam is a great way to introduce color recognition and seasonal themes into your child’s playtime. I also love pairing our foam play with this recirculating sink! My girls love washing the soap off their hands and then getting messy all over again.
Easy Cleanup
When playtime is over, cleanup is simple. Just dump the foam and rinse out the bin. If any foam gets on clothing or surfaces, a quick wipe with a damp cloth should do the trick. If playing outside, a hose makes for an easy rinse-off option. We ended up using a little too much food coloring for one color and I thought their clothes were ruined but it all came out with some stain remover in the wash! Just remember to go easy on the food coloring, haha.
Ready to Get Started?
Bubble Foam is a fantastic way to make St. Patrick’s Day extra special for your little ones. It’s easy to create, fun to play with, and a great way to bring a little magic into your child’s day. So grab your ingredients, mix up a batch of green, and let the fun begin!
