Earth Day Books for Kids (That You’ll Love Too!)
This year, we’re celebrating Earth Day with a couple of our favorite Earth day books for kids. There’s just something special about watching your kids fall in love with the world around them. Little hands reaching for flowers, big curious eyes chasing butterflies, muddy feet splashing through every puddle they can find.
Earth Day is such a good reminder to slow down, soak it all in, and teach our kiddos (and ourselves) to love and take care of this beautiful place we get to call home.
Whether you’re curled up on the couch or reading under a tree, these stories are a great way to talk with your kids about nature, curiosity, and taking care of the earth.

Here are some of our very favorite Earth Day books for kids:
The Boy Who Spoke to the Earth by Chris Burkard

With breathtaking illustrations and a message of mindfulness, this book is a quiet, powerful reminder to find beauty right where we are. The story follows a boy searching for happiness in the world’s wildest places, only to discover that the Earth whispers its wonders in the stillness. Perfect for kids (and grown-ups!) who need a gentle nudge to slow down and be present.
Grace’s husband helped publish this book so we are extra big fans over here.

Nature Series by Dianna Hutts Aston & Sylvia Long
This enchanting collection reads like a love letter to nature’s details, pairing poetic language with stunning watercolor illustrations.

- An Egg Is Quiet – A gentle, mesmerizing look at the diversity and beauty of eggs, from insect to bird. It’s a lovely starting point for conversations about life, beginnings, and the hidden things waiting to hatch.
- A Seed Is Sleepy – This one feels like a lullaby for little botanists. It explores the life of seeds with dreamy descriptions and botanical accuracy, sparking awe in the tiniest sprouts.
- A Butterfly Is Patient – A gorgeous guide to the metamorphosis of butterflies. It helps children see the magic in change and growth—something we all need reminders of.
- A Nest Is Noisy – From birds to alligators, this book explores the many animals that make nests. It’s full of fun facts and sounds, and it just might inspire your little ones to build their own “nests” at home.
These books are equal parts calming and educational—perfect for bedtime or nature-themed days.
Our Universe Series by Stacy McAnulty
This bright and witty series gives voice to our solar system in the most imaginative way. Each book feels like a mini autobiography from a celestial body—with humor, facts, and a whole lot of personality.

- Earth! My First 4.54 Billion Years
Narrated by Earth herself, this is a must-read for Earth Day. She’s quirky, smart, and just a little sassy, walking us through her long (and sometimes wild!) life story with a big heart and big love for her humans. - Moon! Earth’s Best Friend
Told from the Moon’s point of view, this one is all about loyalty, friendship, and orbits. It’s a sweet nod to the beauty of consistency and the magic of being a “sidekick.” - Sun! One in a Billion
The Sun takes center stage here—loud, proud, and full of fiery facts. It’s a fun way to introduce kids to the importance of our solar system’s brightest star.
These Earth day books for kids strike a beautiful balance between silly and smart. They’re a hit with science-loving kiddos and great for introducing big ideas in a playful, relatable way.
The Lorax by Dr. Seuss

No Earth Day book list is complete without The Lorax. This classic has stood the test of time for good reason. With Seuss’s signature rhyme and whimsy, it tells the story of a world stripped of its natural beauty and the small but mighty voice that dares to speak up for the trees. It’s a powerful (but kid-friendly) reminder that our choices matter, and that even the smallest person can make a big difference. The final line, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot…” still gives us goosebumps.

Why We Read These on Earth Day
Stories about nature help spark wonder in our kids and open up simple, meaningful conversations. They’re a beautiful way to teach them about caring for the world and each other.
These books remind us that the Earth is not just something we live on, it’s a friend, a teacher, and a gift. And what better way to celebrate that than through stories that spark wonder and plant seeds of gratitude?
We hope you find one to add to your collection!
