Baby Must-Haves for First-Time Moms

As a first-time mom, I wanted to know which baby items were truly worth it. Of course, everyone knows you’ll need the basics like a car seat, bottles, burp cloths, and diapers. But what about those products that make life easier, save your sanity, or become something you use every single day?

The truth is that every parent has different favorites, so we are here to share one splurge-worthy item and one budget-friendly favorite. Hopefully, you’ll find something here that becomes a baby must-have for your family too!

Faith’s Favorites

Momcozy Bottle Washer

I was absolutely influenced into buying this, and now I must influence everyone else. Ha! This bottle washer has single-handedly made my life so much easier. Of course it’s not a need, but it has taken bottle and pump-part washing completely off my mental load. I got it as a group gift at my baby shower, and I am grateful for it every single day.

Electric Baby Nail File

Baby nails grow SO fast, and I was always terrified I’d accidentally hurt my baby using nail clippers. My sister introduced me to this electric nail file, and it has been a total game changer. It makes trimming nails so much easier, there’s way less fighting involved, and his nails end up soft and smooth instead of sharp little baby claws.

Emma’s Favorites

Slumberpod

If you travel with a baby/toddler, a SlumberPod is one of those not technically necessary but such a helpful product. It creates a dark, private sleep space over a pack ‘n play or mini crib so your baby can actually sleep while you still get to exist in the same room. It has saved multiple naps and bedtimes.

Bouncer

A baby bouncer is one of those things I didn’t realize I would use as much as I actually do. This one has been so nice for giving me a safe place to set my baby down while I do other tasks around the house. It’s lightweight, easy to move around the house. Definitely one of those everyday-use baby items that earns its spot in your house.

Sound machine

A sound machine is one baby item that I genuinely use every single day. It helps block out random noises to make naps and bedtime easier. We use it for bedtime, naps, travel…literally everywhere. It’s one of those simple products that ends up making a huge difference for sleep for both baby and parents.

Boon Trove Milk Collector

This little milk collector made the start of my breastfeeding journey so smooth! It tucks right into your nursing bra and works as both a suction pump and a simple milk collector. I built up a nice little milk stash just from using this one — it’s such a handy thing to have on hand.

Baby Brezza Formula Pro

With my older daughters I ended up formula and combo feeding, and this Baby Brezza was an absolute game changer. It takes all the guesswork out of bottle-making, perfect water temperature, perfect mix, every time, so those middle-of-the-night feedings became effortless. If you’re formula feeding, this is the one thing I’d tell every mom to get.

Grace’s Favorites

Lansinoh Lanolin Nipple Cream

Lanolin is great for those sore and chapped nipples when you’re postpartum and figuring out nursing with your little one. I’ve also used it on dry toddler cheeks and it’s also a fantastic chapstick. What I also like about Lanolin cream is that a little goes a long way so it lasts a very long time.

Moses Basket

A dear friend gifted me a Moses basket, and I’ve loved having it. I take it on trips as a quick and light bed for my baby. I can easily carry it to different rooms in the house or take it outside while the other kids are playing, and I really like how beautiful it is. My friend got it for me from Plum + Sparrow. They have other baskets too! — changing baskets, storage baskets, woven plates, etc.

Final Thoughts

The best baby products are often the ones that make your daily life just a little bit easier. While every family is different, these are the items we found ourselves reaching for again and again. Whether you’re building your registry or looking for a gift for an expecting parent, these parent-approved favorites are a great place to start.
