8 Cozy Fall Soup Recipes to Make This Season

There are a few things that make it officially feel like fall around here, and pulling out our favorite soup recipes is definitely one of them.

These aren’t just eight soups we found while putting together a list. They’re the recipes we come back to year after year. The creamy white chicken chili we make on busy weeknights, the chicken noodle soup that’s been in our family rotation for years, and a handful of favorites we’ve found from food bloggers we absolutely trust.

There are creamy comfort-food soups, some that work great in a slow cooker, a couple really easy pressure cooker dinners, and a few that are just begging for a loaf of good bread or a grilled cheese on the side.

If you’re ready for soup season too, here are 8 of our favorite fall soup recipes to add to your rotation.

1. Our Go-To Creamy White Chicken Chili

This is one of those recipes that goes right back into our dinner rotation as soon as the weather cools down. It’s made with chicken, white beans, green chiles, corn, and a creamy broth with just enough spice.

One of the best parts is that you can make it three different ways: stovetop, Instant Pot, or slow cooker. If we’re making it on the stovetop, we often use precooked chicken to get it on the table even faster.

Why we love it: It’s cozy without feeling overly heavy, easy to adapt to whatever kind of day we’re having, and so good loaded with avocado, cheese, tortilla strips, cilantro, and lime.

2. Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup

This one has been a staple in our family for years. It’s classic chicken noodle soup with chicken, carrots, celery, onions, and wide egg noodles in a rich, savory broth.

This is the kind of soup we want when the weather turns cold, someone isn’t feeling well, or we’re just craving a really good bowl of comfort food.

Why we love it: It’s everything we want chicken noodle soup to be: simple, hearty, savory, and one of those recipes we’ll keep coming back to.

3. Crockpot Potato Soup from the Recipe Rebel

This recipe from The Recipe Rebel is thick and creamy with tender potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion, then finished with cheese and plenty of bacon. Most of the cooking happens in the slow cooker, so it’s a great one to start earlier in the day and have waiting at dinnertime.

Why we love it: It has all the goodness of a loaded baked potato in soup form. Give us a bowl of this and some good bread and we’re set.

4. Zuppa Toscana from Natasha’s Kitchen

If you love the Olive Garden version, this is such a good one to make at home. Natasha’s Kitchen’s Zuppa Toscana is loaded with Italian sausage, potatoes, kale, and bacon in a creamy broth.

It’s hearty enough to be dinner all on its own, although we certainly wouldn’t turn down some warm bread on the side.

Why we love it: Sausage + potatoes + creamy broth + crusty bread. That’s really all we need to say.

5. Ham Bone Lentil Soup from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe

Don’t let lentil soup fool you into thinking it’s going to be the boring one on this list.

This recipe from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe puts a leftover ham bone to very good use, turning it into a hearty soup with lentils, vegetables, and loads of flavor.

Why we love it: It’s filling, comforting, and one of the best ways to turn a leftover ham bone into another full dinner. Definitely tuck this one away for after a holiday ham, too.

6. Smoked Salmon Chowder from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe

This one is a little different from the usual soup rotation, which is part of why we love it.

Mel’s smoked salmon chowder combines smoked salmon with vegetables, corn, bacon, fresh dill, and lemon in a creamy chowder.

Why we love it: It’s rich, smoky, cozy, and feels a little special while still being a big bowl of comfort food. And if you really want to commit to the whole experience, serve it in bread bowls.

7. Easy Pressure Cooker Tomato Soup from Our Best Bites

Sometimes you just want tomato soup and grilled cheese. This is such a good recipe to have in your back pocket for exactly those nights.

Our Best Bites makes this one in the pressure cooker, so you get that homemade tomato soup feel without making dinner complicated.

Why we love it: It’s simple, creamy, and gives us an excuse to make grilled cheese for dinner. We don’t need much more convincing than that.

8. Easy Pressure Cooker Tortilla Soup from Our Best Bites

This might be one of the easiest dinners on the entire list. Our Best Bites starts with chicken and a carton of roasted red pepper and tomato soup, then adds fire-roasted tomatoes, green chiles, seasonings, corn, and black beans. You can even start with frozen chicken breasts, and the recipe is designed to be really flexible depending on what you have in the pantry.

And then, obviously, come the toppings: tortilla chips, avocado, cheese, sour cream, lime, whatever sounds good.

Why we love it: It’s a throw-it-in-the-Instant-Pot kind of dinner with almost no prep, and you can change it up based on what you already have. Exactly the kind of recipe we want on a busy weeknight.

Save These for Soup Season

If we were stocking our fall dinner rotation, we’d happily make our way through this entire list.

You’ve got white chicken chili for a busy weeknight, chicken noodle when you want classic comfort food, potato soup and Zuppa Toscana when something creamy and hearty sounds good, lentil soup when you have a ham bone to use up, smoked salmon chowder when you want something a little different, tomato soup for grilled-cheese night, and tortilla soup for an easy throw-it-all-in dinner.

Basically, consider this our soup-season starter pack.

Save a few for the first really cold week of fall, and if you have a soup recipe you make every single year, send it our way. We’re always looking for another one to add to the rotation.
